You may use some kind of distortions/exciters with extreme equalization. Also you can try bit crusher on vocals, high saturation etc...

Everything works with everything if it sounds right to you!
Chorus usually sounds good on vocals in moderation. Distortion type effects will probably accentuate the chorus sound so experiment with where in the chain each effect goes.

Also you may reach telephone effect simply by converting your vocal track to 8 kHz 8 bit PCM a-law format and importing it back to DAW.
You also may try to mix the distorted vocal track with original vocal track.
