active or passive pickup for recording?

Post by millerthegorilla »

Hi, I want to record my resonator guitar but have had no luck putting it through a mic, so I'm going to get a fishman pickup specially designed for the resonator guitar. It comes as either active or passive. I've read that active pickups are more likely to generate feedback and have a flatter spectrum and am not sure which one to get. I'm guessing that if I get a passive it will be able to be picked up by the soundcard even though it has no power and therefore is not pre amped.

Thanks in advance,

Active vs. passive pickups would be a question specific to the interface you use. Have you tried to Google [your interface] + active pickups?
War, crime, disease, starvation, extreme poverty; these are serious things.
Music? Not so serious. Have some fun! :D

With passive pickups you need an interface with an instruments preamp. What audio interface are you using?
