What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Qsampler not aware of sfz files

Post by onnonymous »

Hi all,

Qsampler on my Ubuntu 10.04 can open .gig files and play them, but doesn't seem to find any sfz files in its open dialogue box, even when I select "sfz" before trying to open a file. Any ideas? Here the versions that I use:

$ dpkg --list | grep sampler
ii gigedit 0.1.1-2.2 instrument editor for Gigasampler files
ii gigtools 3.3.0+CVS07272010-0lucid0~autostatic0 command line tools for Gigasampler and DLS L
ii liblinuxsampler 1.0.0+CVS07272010-0lucid0~autostatic0 realtime audio sampler (base library)
ii linuxsampler 1.0.0+CVS07272010-0lucid0~autostatic0 realtime audio sampler
ii qsampler 0.2.2-1 LinuxSampler GUI frontend based on the Qt to

Thanks in advance.

Hello Onno,

Try the Fantasy jar file that is on the LinuxSampler site, start it with java -jar Fantasy-0.9.jar and then follow pneumanlsd's instructions here: http://wootangent.net/2010/05/the-salam ... mpler-cvs/

Best,

try qsampler from cvs head (should be tagged as version 0.2.2.28).

the released 0.2.2 is waaay too old to know anything about .sfz's or anything else than .gig's

cheers

Thanks for the tips guys! I first tried to compile Qsampler. Went through a kind of dependency hell. After finally building and installing it, it complained at run time that it still couldn't find a lib (that I had built and installed too). Then I decided to give Fantasia a try.

That seems to work fine, but as soon as I try to load an SFZ file, LinuxSampler seems to crash ("Connection to backend failed"). I read something about LinuxSampler having buggy support for SFZ files, could that be the case here? How is SF2 support? Is Timidity a better option here?

I was trying to load the Sonatina orchestra samples: http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/ Any suggestions on how to use these samples? Or are there other, better samples out there? :-)

I just saw this discussion:
http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/forum/vi ... .php?id=15

It seems I need the development branch of LinuxSampler from CVS. I'll try that the other day. So much for using Autostatic's great PPA ;-) Anyway, I'm still open to other orchestra sounds.

Hello Onno,

LinuxSampler from my PPA should work fine with the SSO SFZ file. It is kind of fiddly, for instance I had to raise the number of frames (to 128, or maybe even higher) otherwise I'd get the same error message. And my LinuxSampler packages are from CVS. That's why I uploaded them in the first place, so I could use LinuxSampler with SFZ files. And it's very important that you follow the order which is pointed out on the wootangent blog if you want to load a SFZ file in LinuxSampler.
I now see the download page of the SSO SFZ file has been updated, for what it's worth, the SFZ file on the mirror site I'm providing (autostatic.com) is already patched with pneuman's patch.

Best,

Jeremy

qsampler needs liblscp and libgig (the later is optional).

maybe you missed that after installing a new dynamic/shared library you also need to refresh the system linker cache once with ldconfig as root

hi there

i don´t know as you can speak the german language. if yes, take a look at this

http://wiki.debianforum.de/Installation ... nuxSampler

read it and take a look at the qsampler-section. maybe it will help.
