which quick midi player?

Hi,

To listen to midi made by lilypond I used to use Kmid, but I can't get any sound of it and never did..

Which one do you use (on kde)?

Or is there a smart way to play *.ly/*.midi files?

I've had some luck with TiMidity++. I know it's not quick, but I usually just open .mid's in Rosegarden and use QSynth for the synthesizer.

I use aplaymidi from the command line a lot:

aplaymidi song.mid -p 128:0

I'm going to install wildmidi soon.

I'm hoping that it will fix the wine - midi - pulseaudio(?) problems I've encountered since upgrading to Ubuntu Hardy Heron. (I use Band-in-a-box under wine. http://bria.nwood.org/node/244)

Here's another vote for timidity. I usually use it from the command line to make sure an "export to mid" from Rosegarden or NoteEdit worked correctly.

wildmidi doesn't have jack support is it?

How can aplaymidi produce sounds? Does it use a soundfont or so?

aplaymidi use the softsynth (WaveTable) you choose.
