Poblems getting Guitarix to work on Ubuntu 20.04

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Poblems getting Guitarix to work on Ubuntu 20.04

Post by Hvidemose »

So I’m new to Guitarix and Jack.
I'm having problems getting Guitarix to work on Ubuntu 20.04, with my Steinberg CI2+ sound card. I tried all the combinations of Jack's ports – but the only sound I’m getting, is the clean sound from the sound card...
I tried installing the Alsa mixer, but it doesn't look like its compatible with Ubuntu 20.04 – so i am using QasMixer. I tried with some different settings there, but nothing seems to works...
First goal is to get it to work, and second goal is to get it to work in Ardour.

Does any one have a suggestion for a way forward?

If all else is well, nothing muted in alsa mixer, everything connected in jack then my only thought is to check the monitor MIX knob on the device. Is it rotated to monitor direct from the input jack or rotated to monitor the return from the computer or DAW?

Below are qjackctl connections pics from a guitar interface
and a midi synth (Yoshimi) to guitarix.
Guitar connections from your interface will be similar.
(in qjackctl, your interface may be labeled 'System', click that,
and it will expand to show capture 1, or if a stereo interface, capture 1 and 2

You'll route your

sound-source to

gx_head_amp,

gx_head_amp to gx_amp_fx to

audio output (System: Playback 1 and/or 2)

In qjackctl main gui, click 'Setup', and a panel opens with 4 tabs.
The tabs for Settings is where you'll configure
which audio interface you choose, and it's settings.
My settings in the pic are for an IK iRig, and may work fine for you,
but experiment if unsatisfied.
