I have verified this running Carla under strace. I have also verified permissions It doesn't even seem to try to look for them when I click Refresh in the plugin window.
I tried the U-he vst3 versions, and almost all worked
in linux Reaper, with a quick knob-twiddle-preset_load test. Only
I tried the vst2 versions of ACE and Hive synths, with Twangstrom Reverb
in Carla, seemed to work fine.https://u-he.com/products/
U-he linux installers are a script, which creates a .u-he
folder, holding each plugin and it's content in a subfolder,
and also makes a .vst/u-he folder
containing links from each installed plugin.
Once installed, try the vst 2 and 3 demos in Carla.
