Don't know about best, but lmms is common, works and easy to setup. Launch and start composing. It doesn't even need jack, but can work also with it if wanted.

I like LMMS to notate (mouse clicks). With midi keyboard i like to work with Ardour.
And there are many other DAWs who also do good. Try some. Find your own favourites.

It depends on what you do. I would suggest a sequencer, so MuseScore (if you use notation), MusE (if you only use MIDI) or QSynth (any other case).JosephF wrote:What is the best free Linux software to compose music using existing sf2 files.
