MIDI controllers not showing up in claudia or any other

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

MIDI controllers not showing up in claudia or any other

Post by hudkins »

Hi,

I just did an Ubuntu Studio install with the kxstudio repos. I've got everything going but my MIDI controllers (2 keyboards, drum pad) aren't showing up. I've looked in the jack and a2j logs an there are no errors when starting alsa MIDI in Cadence or any other MIDI related errors in the logs.

The output of lsusb shows the usual things as well as the drum pad and only one of the keyboards.

I'll be happy to share any additional info. Kinda stumped.

aplay -l
arecord -l
aconnect -i
aconnect -o

The output of these commands will show the detected audio devices
named within brackets, or '_'

card 1: M2496 [M Audio Audiophile 24/96], device 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712 multi]

'Midi Through Port-0'

In qjackctl, these names will be the ones to select
or insert as text in the input and output devices widgets.
I've not used cadence, but it should have similar means.

For a device that's not shown in the command output,
boot with the device unplugged, run the commands,
then plug it in, and repeat, noting any differences.
You may have to try different orders/connector-choices of usb devices,
or even a powered hub, as power usage among usb products
might be marketing fibs
Cheers

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Things were showing up for a few days and I figured the problem was a fluke. Now they're not showing up again. Everything shows up now in the commands you gave as well as lsusb, but the instruments don't show up in qjackctl, claudia or catia.

I did try plugging different things in different places and I plugged everything into a powered hub I have laying around. Didn't change anything.

It'll show any internal midi instruments just fine but my external controllers don't show up.
