"Constant Rolling Studio" Debian Sid Based Distro Is Out!

Post by artofmusic »

Here is a studio distro I made based on the Debian Sid branch. It has the kxstudio debian repos on it and it has a pre-installed RT 3.10LTS kernel on it as well. Also, It has the Carla-git 2.0 version installed by default and wine-rt + wineasio for those who wanna use reaper. I have made a script for using ffmpeg and JACK for screen capturing called screencapjack in the home folder or you can use the one in /opt.

To Enable The Script:
chmod +x screencapjack
To Run In Terminal:
./screencapjack
To Exit:
press ctrl + c

Check It Out: http://sourceforge.net/projects/constantrollingstudio/

My Distro Uses SID (unstable) repos for bleeding edge software. and It has nice things like a custom screencasting script with jack support and a custom built rt kernel with the maudio fast track pro 24/96k patch, otherwise its a nice desktop theme and the upstream debian plus KX repos.

I'm using debian/sid now longer then 12 years, in all the time I've just make one new install of my main system, because of a hard-disc failure. So, well, debian/sid is a really nice way to sail on the blending age with a up-to-date system.

However, I miss the good old times, were people tend to provide the sources of there work, instead push some binary’s to a "SOURCE SHARING PROVIDING SERVICE".
I wouldn't sound harsh here, nor would I be rude, but it really sucks me off to see this behavior growing.
I'm sure you come along with the best attitude, but please keep in mind that Linux itself grow and get better and better every day, because the source, and the tools to build the binary's, are open and provided along.
On the road again.

That I do Like About Your Debian Repos FalkTX though its a little annoying for the debian users you have unity metapackages (i.e. cadence-unity-support) in there thankfully my synaptic wont go fetch broken depends I know that this is a Work In Progress and I am asking for it a bit in sid otherwise everything else is fine and I love the Carla Git Builds I have wine-rt and kontakt 5 running in carla patchbay yeah. :D
Also I have a few scripts and the rt kernels in separate folders on my project page if any Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit user wants 'em. No Nvidia-RT patched kernels however.
The new 3.14rt kernel can be found in the PACKAGES Folder http://sourceforge.net/projects/constan ... rce=navbar

ITS NOT A BUG, not your fault what I mean is it wants to pull in some of unity
here is the error
Depends: gir1.2-unity-5.0 but it is not installable
in other words unity doesn't exist cause its DEBIAN which doesn't carry any of the Ubuntu unity libraries at least in sid and testing don't know about jessie and wheezy.
I also Have kxstudio-backports Installed

Alrighty, maybe their will be a way to hide the packages that dont work but yeah wasn't to sure about backports and thus removing, nothing was installed from there anyway.

3.4gb its a litte large...

Looks ike its going to take 6 hours to download on my connection, and seems like i cant pause the download and resume later.

Mentioned something about no nvidia rt patch. Does that mean i cant install nvidia drivers with the rt kernels?

I can't seem to easily download that distro and its almost two years old. Plus again 32 bit if you want a multimedia machine 64 bit is the way to go why do you think mac's are only 64 bit now.

As for nvidia rt your in a world of pain unless you don't update kernels often and I suggest you use my 3.10rt kernel. Here is a link to the patches:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... installer/

link to the kernel rt patches:
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel ... s/rt/3.10/

A guide to set it up the only one that seemed to work but its outdated a bit:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/72964/ho ... ime-kernel

Personally I use intel iris 5200 for my graphics so no prop. driver worries or even an AMD card will work better with libre drivers than Nvidia will so if your serious about your audio then using AMD or Intel are the only options for out of the box experience.

Well, it's really much harder to download it from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/io-gnu- ... rce=navbar
and that we have past nearly 2 years since 2014-2-13, haven't notice that.
Despite your regression on 64 bit machines, you will found that there are 32 and 64bit versions.

However,
good luck for you as well, even if I don't understand why we need so much distros.
On the road again.
