Can't play anything from bandcamp or soundcloud

I don't know where to post this, I've tried on a few other forums but I haven't found any kind of answer.

I can't play anything at all from bandcamp on my computer, when I hit play the icon spins but then it moves to the next track and then the process repeats, it never actually plays anything. Soundcloud does pretty much the same thing but strangely I can play my own songs on there but not any others.

I'm using firefox but I have tried midori and that does the same thing. I think I must be missing a codec or something but not sure what it would be. I have updated flash and tried deleting the settings in that but it made no difference. I have adblock disabled and have tried safe mode but it doesn't seem to browser specific.

Just tried grooveshark but I can stream audio from there.

I had a similar problem with chromium/midori and followed this:

This sorted out any problems i had with bandcamp and sound cloud.

I don't find that particular package in my repos or AUR but I did have ffmpeg extra installed previously. I'm actually on a fresh installation now and still have the same problem. Guess I'll just use midori for the odd one that does play any sound.

Aye sorry, wasn't sure what system you were using.

This might not be that helpful, but I've just tried to replicate the fault on a 32bit arch netbook and 64 bit arch laptop and both play fine with Chromium now, there was a problem with soundcloud on the netbook, but this was sorted after installing google-chrome-stable (which i don't really use, buts useful on odd occasions), maybe that's providing the relevant codec (i'm pretty sure the codec used on BC and SC are non free).

I can play most songs now, originally I didn't have all the gstreamer plugins installed but after installing them there is still the odd song/page that just plays no sound, the track progresses but there is no audio. Midori plays it fine and on my previous installation Chromium worked as well but no one can seem to replicate the issue which is odd. I have all the stated dependencies installed for firefox and in my previous installation I tried all sorts of codecs but nothing worked (ffmpeg extra, codecs64 etc).

Installed firefox and plays misterdls soundcloud OK on both 64 and 32bit Arch. Maybe worth noting that i only have gstreamer-base installed on either machine.

This is really weird, I just installed Palemoon and everything works as it should. I even copied the profile over from firefox so it can't be that. I have no idea, maybe I'll try a new clean installation of firefox...or stick with Palemoon.

revoking an old post but I m in the same situation , and actually on my thinkpad x220 it s like this since years, not depending on which distro, that soundcloud and bandcamp doesnt work or just for a short time and then crash.. any ideas about that? now i m on manjaro linux and the rest works fine.. .

calimerox do you have flash installed? I would try removing that if you do.

i just deinstalled flashplugin, restarted the browser, but problem persists...

That's weird. I'm running manjaro as well at the moment so should be more or less the same. Have you tried with a new firefox profile?

There is still the old fix for firefox, to makes soundcloud work.

I couldnt set media.gstreamer to false because it doesnt appear in the about:config...


How do i start a new firefox profile? deleting .firefox or something like that?

That happened to me too on Arch. It was pulseaudio. I removed it and all works.
Gnome and Cinnamon upgraded and caused pulseaudio to become the main audio source.

EDIT: just did another update and pulseaudio got installed again.. lost all my web browser sounds in all my browsers. no audio on any site.. uninstalled pulseaudio and all is good again..

Open a terminal and run

firefox -p

You should get the firefox the profile chooser, you can create a new one from there.
