[wish] save linux-jack-audio-session

Post by studio32 »

Would be nice if you could save a whole linux jack audio session. Ok, there is the patchbay which works good for the jack connections and you have lash, but it isn't supported by all linux audio apps ( http://apps.linuxaudio.org/apps/categories/lash )

Should a linux audio app support Lash the same as they are supposed to support jack?

Or should all apps by made as plugins? Like commercial apps do with VST etc?

Or are there other/ better solutions for a saved session? Or isn't it needed?

anyone heard of the distro nixOS?
NixOS. NixOS is a Linux distribution featuring Nix, a combined package and configuration management system. Its main features are the ability to roll back the entire system configuration to an earlier state, package dependency resolution based on cryptographic hashes, ability to install multiple versions of the same package, and support for both source and binary packages. NixOS is developed in the Netherlands by the Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Utrecht University.

Couldn't such a feature a solution for saving a linux-audio-jack-session????
edit: mmh it's rolling back to a state before updating for example... that's not what we need...(?)
But a system which can save a whole state of the system at a particular moment should solve our problem... isn't it?

Not realy, what we need is to save the state from inside a program. That must be save by the program it self. There for we need a app like lash to get a standart for the art of save the needed information. It is not so hard to save/load all runing apps at the time, but inside the apps, for example plugins, instrument settings, tracks, thats what we need. If you wont to save this informations from outside the application, you need a api, you must force the application to save his own state to a given place. That is a funktion witch you must wrote in the applications code. Lash try to give this api and make that possible.

Ok, but big apps like ardour and rosegarden don't have lash support cause they have their own save session/ snapshot... and they seems not very interested in lash for technical reasons...
