Re: Plugin makers, please make builds static by default
Sorry Kott, we didn't mean you to keep you out of the loop with our Pizza-language We have to find a way to discuss in English too, please send me an email!
After I switched (back, given my Arch past) to a rolling distro (openSUSE Tumbleweed) I understood that on stable distros there is big amount of work that could be easily avoided by making most libraries static.
I think that just like @Kott did with the LV2 porting project, we packagers from different distros should join forces to make patches to make existing plugins rely on static libs. This could be done:
1. By patching projects upstream
2. If the project upstream doesn't accept patches, by maintaining a separate fork
Of course, this requires some skills with build systems (make, CMake and Meson for the most part).
As a packager and programmer, I have some experience with those but I can't take such a project on my own, so I want to hear some opinions
