Copyright/copyleft drum pattern?

Post by sjaehn »

Does anybody know if a drum pattern can be copyrighted? And what about a whole collection of drum patterns?

Background: https://lawyerdrummer.com/2018/04/can-c ... -drumbeat/ and the discussion below it.

I am not a lawyer and copyright law changes a lot between places. There are entire genres based on a single drum pattern and I personally don't think any judge would enforce copyright in any case except for drum breaks and solos, those are more like melodies.
