Hello plexi45, I have an ASUS notebook with almost the same onboard SiS card. It won't work properly with JACK at lower settings.

Best,

I tried, 256, 512, 1024, almost all settings. Still no good. Ok.. I guess I need to upgrade. Iḿ going to try and get my Digitech gnx 3000 to work with it somehow. It´s usb so I´m sure more problems to come.. Thanks for everyones input.

I don't see problems with USB-Soundcard in Linux. I have an USB1 soundcard: M-Audio Duo.......Nobody can use it in Windows because of latancy - thats why I got it verry cheap....In linux we have RT-Kernels, specelized systems.....I use it with 128 Frames/Period wich gives me a latancy which is unnotable

You could try lowering your periods/buffer to 2. And maybe 'Force 16bit' helps.

Setting up my gnx went a little better. Getting a few xruns but at least jack stays running. I guess I just need to tweak my settings to get it better. I will also try increasing the buffer setting and forcing 16 bit on my ac97.

you have a full audio-device....why would you use a AC97?

only check the IRQ-thing with the GNX (read the whole thread)...find out wich USB-Port has the lowest IRQ

I heard horror stories about usb and audio production under linux. I´ve used linux off and on since Redhat 5.1 and always had to switch back to that other os for my audio needs. Recently installed karma 9.10 and opted to manually update it to studio version. I tried to install ubuntu studio from disk but it would not detect my wifi. So.. Also, I installed fluxbox wm to get around pulseaudio issues.. I love tweaking my distro but I would love some things to just work out of the box.. Could you post some links to help point me in the right direction for my usb? That would be a great help.

Regards,
Mark

well, i installed karmic from a Ubuntu-minimal-CD and than installed RT-Kernel, KDM, etc.....so i never installed pulsaudio

as for wifi, use wicd

as for your usb, everyting you need is in this topic....just make sure you use the USB-Port with the lowest IRQ.....disable all hardware in bios wich you don't use; onboard-sound; com-ports; onboard-modem; onboard-lan if you use wifi; etc.
and than have a look at rtirq, but I think it's not necessary if you do the things above.

I don't have problems with my USB-device and i can work with latency from 5.8 to 8.71msec

I would disable wifi in favour of an onboard network card for the simple reason that a lot of wifi devices are USB devices:

Code: Select all

jeremy@soushi:~$ lsusb | grep -i wlan
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 03f0:171d Hewlett-Packard Wireless (Bluetooth + WLAN) Interface [Integrated Module]
And concerning PulseAudio on Ubuntu 9.10, you can simply disable it by creating a ~/.pulse/client.conf file with the line autospawn = no in it and create a new Startup Application that executes the command pulseaudio -k

Could you give me a little more info on creating the client.conf file? Thanks in advance
