Korg Monologue and MIDI

Post by OccinticLady »

Hi all,
Today, I got my Monologue. While everything does work, the MIDI-over-USB does (not)...in other words, I have yet to figure out how to get it working.
The monologie manifests itself as such in the ALSA list.
I can, however, not make a connection with it via QTrachtor.
I can connect it, sure, in the tab of ALSA, but it does'nt receive the signal, or, send any to the computer.
Thanks for meditating with me...

Are you using JackAudio? Because if you don't know what that is: Qtractor needs it and if I'm not mistaken Qtractor will start Jack it by itself. However, Jack might not be configured then the way you'd like. You might have to start it manually yourself.

Anyway, first things first. Lets see how your Korg Monologue is connected. I own one too. Run the following command:

Code: Select all

jack_control dp
Output should look something like this:

Code: Select all

client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
    0 'Timer '
    1 'Announce '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
    0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 16: 'C-Media CMI8738' [type=kernel,card=0]
    0 'C-Media CMI8738 MIDI'
client 17: 'OPL3 FM synth' [type=kernel,card=0]
    0 'OPL3 FM Port '
client 24: 'monologue' [type=kernel,card=2]
    0 'monologue MIDI 1'
    1 'monologue MIDI 2'
If you look closely you'll see "0 monologue MIDI 1" which is Korg's secret speak for "USB Midi IN".

Ooops. I made a mistake. The USB Midi input of the Korg Monologue appears to be "1 monologue MIDI 2", the other one is output.

For me, in Qtractor, the Connections window looks like this:

This worked!I have connection.
Now, I'll have to figure out why it goes in "play" mode. It starts a sequence. Possibly some setting.
Just got it today! Red one, lovely :D
Edit : found it, edit - 6 - clock source:internal... :D

Aha! You have to do that on the Korg. I was also wondering why the synth started playing its own sequence from a patch when I started a Midi sequence that I programmed in Qtractor. Thanks for the info. :)
