Operating System optimized for audio/MIDI? What would it look like?

Post by Nievski »

- What would an OS optimized for audio/MIDI look like?
- What features would you want to add, optimize or disable?
- What features would be "must haves" for live performance and studio recording?

:Welcome:

In principle you only need to install jackd2 and that only because it automatically enters the 2 entries in the limits.conf regarding RT audio during the installation.

Optionally a Low Latency or RT kernel and if you want the other things - see the 2 links in my signature.
Generally a minimal system - Systemprograms/GUI/... - is advantageous.
Best would be Gentoo https://gentoostudio.org/ ;-) because of the make.conf/USE flags/... . IMHO
. . . FZ - Does humor belongs in Music?
. . GNU/LINUX@AUDIO ~ /Wiki $ Howto.Info && GNU/Linux Debian installing >> Linux Audio Workstation LAW
