JACK Trouble with USB Mic + Regular Headphones

Post by mjrufsvold »

Hi, all!

First time poster. I read through the forums best I can, tried lots of solutions, but mine doesn't seem to line up anywhere. Please forgive me if this is redundant!

I am having trouble getting audio into Jamulus with a usb micrphone and out of it using my headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the front of my computer.

If I set interface to default and open the connection menu in QjackCtl, I get system audio options for both input and output, but I don't have a microphone to plug into the microphone jack of my computer. If I set the interface to my USB microphone, then the system audio options disappear, so I can't get audio back out to my headphones. I went to the advanced tab and played around with a bunch of iterations of input and output settings, most of them cause JACK to fail to start. When they don't match, I get error messages that I'll paste below.

I'm definitely killing PulseAudio. Tried to dig into the device conf docs (couldn't tell you exactly what I tried because it was many, many troubleshooting steps ago. Sorry.). Tried adding my user to the audio group.

I'm running:
Elementary OS built on Ubuntu 18.04
Jack 1.9.12
Jamulus 3.6.2

Here is the error message when the input and output device options don't match:

What USB mic do you have?

When I had a USB microphone 'system' was my built in audio, and the USB mic showed up under another name in the connections window. Are you saying that JACK does not identify the USB mic as an option in the connections window, but it does have it as an option in Setup?

Is your mic detectable anywhere, i.e. with pulseaudio or ALSA? If Pulseaudio can pick it up, you could try the solution I provided here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=22622&p=128295#p127985
