Shell out a few dollars and download it prebuilt from the official site.

Fair enough. I'm not settled on this current install yet, but it would be nice to have an official version.

On my rig turning off wifi and changing the audio usb interface to another usb port made those pesky xruns go away.

Changing CPU governor to "performance" was the solution for me.

Code: Select all

echo -n performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor

in mix, nobody can hear your screen

I have been running linux and Ardour since long time ago and x-runs and tweaking has been an ongoing battle. I am using both FireWire and USB and tried all kinds of computers and newer laptops seems to be a lot harder to successfully run with low latency. Running Ardour with just alsa seems to work better than with Jack if no interconnect outside Ardour is necessary.

A weird power brick was new to me and I will try that with my current misbehaving laptop.

There should exist a database of things to try to minimize x-runs and also a way to report what was the culprit.
