Jackfreqd....

Post by Aleks »

Recently I found about this

https://gareus.org/oss/jackfreqd/start

Is anybody here using it? What is your experience, does it help? Also, if I install it, do I have to disable indicator-cpufreq and other services related to CPU managing?

Sounds very interesting. The first version was released "on 12 Dec 2010 - v0.0.3" and the current version is from 28 February 2020 - 0.2.0? I had never heard of jackfreqd before. I noted it down.

Just gave it a try but doesn't seem to work for me:

It might be because you have to use sudo -i. I installed it, but didn't try it with elevated privileges, I must say, because, after I bumped into the same problem as you did, I tried once more another solution suggested here (the last post):

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14759&start=15

So experimented a bit with the script on startup. Instead of PCH in my case it should have been PCH,0. After that didn't work either, I left out the "96000 &", and this time it works! No xruns whatsoever. I had a single xrun when I put aside my guitar after full 20 minutes of noodling around without sound being interrupted with all sorts of crackling noise and occasional silence as it happened before, and when I started to close all those windows I had open: a pdf document qsampler, rackarack, hydrogen, virtual midi keyboard and chrome. Mind you, I had my cpufreq indicator set to powersave and also I played alongside songs on YouTube, so wifi had to be on too. And yet, not a single dropout. So yeah, the culprit might be the duplex feature.

The only problem is that music app windows seem to lag a bit on opening and closing. Sometimes I have to force close them, but, oh well, nothing's perfect...
