White Noise when restarting Jack

Post by lilith »

Sometimes when I stop Jack in Cadence and restart it again I get a burst of white noise. After stopping and restarting again it works normal.
Does anyone know where this might come from?

Never experienced that but I don't use Cadence. When I get noises in jackd then they are made by (crashing) programs like Qtractor, mostly when doing something with plugins.

In your case maybe Pulseaudio or Pulseaudio-clients make the noise when jackd get restarted.

Linux – MOTU UltraLite AVB – Qtractor – http://suedwestlicht.saar.de/

Maybe Pulseaudio, I wonder how I can check this. I could use the alsa bridge for a while and see if it happens again or just kill pulse audio the next time when the noise appears.

I was facing the same issue (and sometimes still do) when trying to use DrumGizmo with Ardour with a small buffer suitable for recording. After a kernel update this seems to be gone, but I am not completely sure, as I do mostly live shows for now.
Being creative does not imply being lazy, stupid, or illiterate.

Working in Harrison Mixbus and Ardour on KDE Neon + KXStudio.

It's not related to pulseaudio. It happens regularly when stopping and restarting Jack several times. When I open Ardour then I get a hum with a low volume. When I start transport it turns into white noise. The hum does not show up in the faders .... same with Reaper.. Something in Jack seems to be crashing.

If you listen closely, you'll hear that there's actually a noise when you stop jack too. It's just that this sigh of relief is much softer than the scream of anguish your computer makes when you restart jack.
then I get a hum with a low volume
Like a steady groan/moan?
When I start transport it turns into white noise
A shreik of horror, no doubt. Now all you need is some Halloween desktop wallpaper.
