I am using a firewire Behringer FCA202 and that has been working fine as well as my yamaha ypg235usb. Have no idea what made the sound so awful since yesterday morning.

Using the kxstudio repos with linuxmint Rebecca 17.1. Have been using the kxstudio repos for a couple of years now. Love the setup. Must be a way to fix this.

Any thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Which sounds are scratchy...
which kind of sounds do you typically use?

standalone softsynth via jackd like amsynth?
softsynth plugin like yoshimi in a daw like qtractor/carla?
audio from software video files like .flv/.mp4?
audio track in a daw from your Yamaha keyboard output?

Did you add or update any software using synaptic/apt-get?

Did you rearrange usb device connections?

Can you post your /home/your-username/.jackdrc textfile?
Cheers

Thank you so very much for answering. Believe I may have fixed the problem. The sound was scratchy in every synth, youtube videos, playing a song in clementine, etc. There were some upgrades done but they were the suggested ones from linuxmint. Did not remember what they all were. One of those upgrades possibly caused the problem.

Happened to find a fix in ubuntu forums.

Workaround for glitchy (crackling, skipping) audio is to open:
/etc/pulse/default.pa

Find the line that looks like this and add "tsched=0".
Code:

load-module module-udev-detect

It should look like this:
Code:

load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

After doing this, the sound is back to normal.

Thanks again.
