[no solution found] proprietary nvidia with rt kernel

Post by tatch »

I've been trying to use the proprietary nvidia drivers with a 3.14 rt kernel but I haven't been able to get it to work. After a while I found that nvidia drivers are incompatible with RT kernels: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... e-nvidia-/ has anyone found a fix for this?

There is a patch mentioned in the the link you posted. It used to work fine for me on the older driver with a 2.6.39 kernel. I've quit using the proprietary driver since then as the nouveau driver has become usable for my purposes in the 3.x kernels. However I get lockups on anything newer than 3.10 so I've been stuck at that version.

I stay with the 3.4.xxx-rt series, anything later gives me Xruns/lockups. Also use the nouveau driver, which suite me well.

Code: Select all

Kernel: 3.4.105-rt129 x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 4.9.2)
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GT216 [GeForce GT 220] bus-ID: 01:00.0
Display Server: X.Org 1.16.1.901 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
On the road again.

thanks for the info. nouveau isn't an option for me right now as I want to use the proprietary driver for gaming, and I was having problems getting my soundcards to work with <3.11. It doesn't seem like I'll be able to use the proprietary driver with lowlatency or rt kernels anyhow so I'll just have to boot into windows or a generic kernel for now.

There is the linux-rt arch project, which seems to have solved the issue for 3.14.xx, didn't know exactly, as I haven't try, but maybe worth a try for you:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-rt/
(you find the required patch in the Download tarball)
check also the nvidia-rt project:

On the road again.
