Hi all,
I did a lot of tuning: kernel with HZ1000, preemptive desktop setting, cpufreqd with fancy rules (max freq when running audio programs) and so on.
I have 2 Core i5 systems with 16 GB RAM each: a desktop and a notebook. Both are running Xubuntu 12.04.
Now I tried Kernel 3.12 (saucy) found at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Unfortunately the one without "rc" in its name vanished. But I have a copy
This one has the intel_pstate governor as default and it works damn well. The cpu frequencies are different for each core and although it uses the powersave mode it's great with jackd. No cpufreqd needed! Even when running my notebook without AC.
So jackd running with -P95 and a stock kernel 3.12 are my dream team.
God save intel_pstate
