mic port can be heard but no programs see any input

Postby sysrqer » Sun Feb 05, 2017 5:28 pm

This laptop is driving me crazy. Something is set up incorrectly here but I can't figure out what.

I have plugged a (cheap) microphone in to the mic port on my laptop. If I turn up the mic level in alsamixer I can hear the mic through my plugged in headphones.
In cadence I route System Capture to a program (ardour, guitarix etc) and I get no input there although I can still hear the mic.
In cadence I have my soundcard set to input and output.

So what is happening? How can the input be passing through the system but ignored by jack?
I'm not even sure what information to provide but here is some general system info:

Use alsamixer to play around with each control and button to activate capturing.

Even with everything enabled and turned up nothing passes to jack programs

Press F4 and post the screenshot.

Are you sure to have the correct device configured in jackd?
