if the plug-ins are free to download, what permission do you need? perhaps it is better to abandon this discussion, otherwise we risk transcending into a language that is not suited to a forum !!!

Re: Kx studio 2021 remix ( debian bullseye based + artwork and repo kx studio + kde plasma)
I think that taking third party offence because someone has used the theming of a not longer updated distro is OTT. It called "2021 remix", that seems pretty indicative that is not the same as the original.
@gennargiu you need to understand that free to download and free to put in your distribution are two different things and for the u-he plugins you can't put them in your distribution like this.

Re: Kx studio 2021 remix ( debian bullseye based + artwork and repo kx studio + kde plasma)
The term "Free" is ambiguous, while "public domain" is very specific. It can be confusing at first, especially when one is used to have access to free/libre software from GNU/Linux distributions that can be remixed without worrying about such details.
If we want others to respect the GPL, we also need to respect non-free licenses from others.
In your case it isn't hard to do, just needs a bit of extra attention, and can be done in an update without much fuzz. -- I'd probably mention any non-free software directly, so that purists are not even tempted, and know what to expect (rather than start a long discussion). AVLinux does a good job at that for example.
The debian installer is definitely not in the public domain, but licensed in terms of the GNU General Public License, as is OB-Xd.
A notable requirement by the GPL is that when asked by a user, you have to be able to provide the source-code to the binary that is distributed.
...and decemsampler is tricky...

The u-he plugins are not in the public-domain. They are (C), all rights reserved by Heckmann Audio GmbH, but if you agree to the conditions in the legal agreement that comes with the free (no cost) plugins, you can redistribute them. As per license requirement, you have to include the license.txt file that comes with the software and it must be a non-commercial endeavor. There are more conditions, but those are not directly relevant to redistribution. However a user must to agree to those. You cannot pre-install the plugins directly.gennargiu wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 3:28 pm https://u-he.com/products/#synths ( see free synths )

according to your reasoning then all distributions in the world of debian and related remixes are then illegal? because if so then it is necessary to inform the millions of users around the world who use it !!!x42 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:05 pm The term "Free" is ambiguous, while "public domain" is very specific. Re: Kx studio 2021 remix ( debian bullseye based + artwork and repo kx studio + kde plasma)
That was not my reasoning, please read it again.
The GPL is very specific about freedoms and constraints. When using debian (as user or when deriving from it) you also agree to: https://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines
You cannot just treat all software like it is in the public domain, or licensed in terms of the WTFPL (even though in an ideal world one could).

PS. I think your remix is a good idea and there are probably many users who will gladly use it.
I also expect that compared to the work you have already done, properly tagging different parts of it as "non-free", or informing users about those will be an easy task.

read the U-he license, it allows to distribute:
This software may be freely distributed under the following conditions:
- this license agreement must accompany the software
- the software must be distributed free of charge, it may not be exploited commercially in any way
- the software is not modified so that its intended core functionality (as an audio plugin) is altered
- no parts of the software are reverse engineered, decompiled, disassembled etc..
- no text or graphic information (such as labels or copyright notices) are removed or changed
Re: Kx studio 2021 remix ( debian bullseye based + artwork and repo kx studio + kde plasma)
and who has changed anything? I am not aware of having made any changes on the free u-he products included in the kx studio 2021 remix !!!Kott wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 1:09 amread the U-he license, it allows to distribute:This software may be freely distributed under the following conditions:

My apologies for also repeating dreamer's mistake without checking properly.read the U-he license, it allows to distribute
Re: Kx studio 2021 remix ( debian bullseye based + artwork and repo kx studio + kde plasma)
After clarification with Felipe via email and having exposed the problem, I removed the iso and the link of the remix created with kde plasma, I'm sorry for gnu linux users who will be able to download studiomusic 64 always present on the forum. For the future when I will remix using the official debian repositories I will try to avoid using the kx studio repositories and I will go to the direct sources of the free and open source plugins of the related producers to be included in future remixes dedicated to music production. At this point you can also close or remove the created theatred (communication addressed to the administrators and moderators of linuxmusicians forum)
