Vital released under GPLv3+
https://github.com/mtytel/vital
Thank you Matt Tytel for this wonderful gift!
It seems the name is trademarked though, so to distribute it on distro repositories it needs to be forked with a name that does not include "Vital" (so no LibreVital or OpenVital). I propose "Vitus".
The parts which connect to the Vital server also need to be patched out.

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
Well now, this makes an already good synth even better. Wasn't expecting this so soon. (Though with Matt doing open source stuff before, I figured it was an eventual possibility).
Not that it makes any real practical difference for me personally—I was already using Vital, and I will most likely continue using the main distribution version. But as a matter of principle it makes me feel better.

In viewtopic.php?p=129425#p129425 @LAM proposed 'Vial' - which I like as it's "Like Vital but with some bits removed"Basslint wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 6:39 am It seems the name is trademarked though, so to distribute it on distro repositories it needs to be forked with a name that does not include "Vital" (so no LibreVital or OpenVital). I like Vial. Vials in videogames are used to restore life points, so it makes senseLAM wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 11:27 am Not my idea, i got the name from this: https://github.com/Be-ing/vital/commit/ ... ca37457c6c

A vial is a small bottle, usually for storing liquids.

-> Do not connect to any web service at https://vital.audio, https://account.vital.audio or https://store.vital.audio from your own builds. This is against the terms of using those sites.
So the question is: Is this synth usable when you build it from source?

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
I am pretty sure it is, the server should be just for downloading extra presets and wavetables.bluebell wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 4:06 pm https://github.com/mtytel/vital

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
I tried to build it on a ARM Linux. But it failed because of firebase sdk. Does anyone know how turn off the dependent firebase?

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
Yes, it needs to compile with the REQUIRE_AUTH=0 flag. Most workable fork (for now) is here: https://github.com/taylordotfish/vitalbluebell wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 4:06 pm https://github.com/mtytel/vital

Unfortunately it doesn't help me because it needs OpenGL 1.4 and I have 1.3. Dunno how to install Mesa 1.4 on my Ubuntu 16.04.

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
I don't understand the problem about license. A lot of software in GNU/Linux distros have software with GPLv3 and developers don't change the name or logo of applications.

Re: Vital released under GPLv3+
It's about the trademark, not the license
