It's about the trademark, not the license :D
Ummm, so Is the name Vital locked? Uncommon practice, neither Ardour does that, anyhow the synth's code is free (libre) and that is the important.

Long live the Free Software!

It's not unheard of. Think of Chrome vs Chromium, for instance.
Artist name Ben Enkindle. Making electronic music exclusively with Linux software.

Yes

Not super common, but another example was https://wiki.debian.org/Firefox?action=show#Iceweasel

Kudos to FalkTX!

Unfortunately it doesn't help me because it needs OpenGL 1.4 and I have 1.3. Dunno how to install Mesa 1.4 on my Ubuntu 16.04.
FalkTX "fixed" this problem (which I also had before). Vitalium (the name for the Vital version in the KX Studio repository) now works without a problem in my system and runs in Ardour! I could even import the sound bank from my paid version of Vital. (Vitalium comes with no presets at all. That could be a nice contribution to the project by those who know some sound design.) [hint, hint]. ;-)

Code: Select all

hm@regen:~/src/DISTRHO/2021-03-07$ mkdir build
hm@regen:~/src/DISTRHO/2021-03-07$ meson build --buildtype release
The Meson build system
Version: 0.29.0
Source dir: /var/daten/Holger/src/DISTRHO/2021-03-07
Build dir: /var/daten/Holger/src/DISTRHO/2021-03-07/build
Build type: native build

Meson encountered an error in file meson_options.txt, line 37, column 0:
Unknown type array.
That's a "the tools in your distro are too old" error. I hate it. I really, really hate it.

For those who have Ubuntu 16:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install python3-pip
python3 -m pip install meson==0.55.0
python3 -m pip install ninja
Yep, FalkTX has fixed it. Great!

The Vitalium LV2 isn't very stable at the moment. I had GUI issues and a crash in Qtractor. But the sound is great.
