Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
Status? Version?
Looks great for integration in a modular setup. I might try nondaw for sound design.

Man this looks pretty damn good! Easy and fast!
I wonder if I will bump my head against some missing features... and these apps are a one-man-show?

Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
Cool Find,
Has anyone built it? I would be curious if it still has compatibility with newer JACK (0.116+). The author references ZynADDSubFX which had broken JACK support until it's latest release so I'm wondering if this would work or not. I'll give a go and post back, the MIDI Sequencer looks very appealing. The DAW would work very nicely with linuxDSP and LV2Rack.
The developers commentary on other competing applications throughout the manuals is hilarious!

Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
I had problems making nondaw work with older jack versions as well (haven't tried with jack2).
The problem was that you couldn't see the tracks of your session (this is with Ubuntu Hardy, Jaunty).
I discovered that if you resize the main window vertically enough (e.g. make it bigger), that the
tracks become visible again. I reported this bug on the non-daw mailing list, but somehow it
didn't get through. I will try again now...
Hope this helps for everyone experiencing the same problem.

This was a solution for the Jack problem?lievenmoors wrote:I had problems making nondaw work with older jack versions as well (haven't tried with jack2).

Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
No, sorry, this has nothing to do with Jack. But because of this bug, people might conclude that
non-daw doesn't work at all for whatever reason.

Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
Ok.
The author seems to be gone... I can't contact him.
On the LAD mailinglist there are one or two persons interested in a 'fork' (whatever that means in this case).
Which would be cool imho, cause this are cool apps!

yah, some sign of life of the author on the LAD list
no need to fork, time for collaboration

Re: nondaw, nonsequencer
Have anyone really tested non sequencer? Is it any better than either rosegarden or seq24?

The author seems to think so:laba170 wrote:Have anyone really tested non sequencer? Is it any better than either rosegarden or seq24?
"Filling the void left by countless DAWs, piano-roll editors, and other purely performance based solutions, it is a compositional tool--one that transforms MIDI music-making on Linux from a complex nightmare into a pleasurable, efficient, and streamlined process."
I have tested it, though not strenuously. It is very cool, but probably not suitable for every MIDI composer. YMMV. Might as well try it, you can't beat the price.
Best,
