[ANN] Konfyt Digital Keyboard Workstation v1.1.1

Post by noedig »

Konfyt 1.1.1 has been released!

Konfyt is a digital keyboard workstation for Linux which allows you to set up patches, each with multiple layers, and instantly switch between these patches for live keyboard playing. Patches may consist of multiple layers of soundfonts (.sf2), SFZ instruments, audio input ports and MIDI output ports. Konfyt features a library which allows quick access to soundfont programs and SFZs.

The source code and precompiled binaries are available on Github:
https://github.com/noedigcode/konfyt

Some more info, links to videos and news are available on the Konfyt website:
http://www.noedig.co.za/konfyt/

Some new features:
* Preview mode options: MIDI input port and channel, output bus.
* MIDI input port and bus menus now have a link to the connections page.
* Save-as finally implemented.
* Compatible with Carla 2.2.0 (API change)

Smaller changes:
* Default global and layer gain (volume) is now 1.0.
* SF3 soundfonts are now detected and loaded.
* Current setting is marked in MIDI channel/port/bus menus
* Small GUI tweaks.

Enjoy. As always, any feedback welcome.

This has been on my list of things to try out for a long time. Great to see that it is actively maintained. Hopefully this release will give me the push to finally look into it.

Are there any plans to integrate sfizz as a SFZ engine maybe?

Short term answer: no.
Long term answer: maybe. It depends on time and whether I start itching to incorporate it.

Is there any reason you prefer sfizz?

For me, LinuxSampler has always served my needs. Initially Carla was used for that, but when it switched to SFZero I found it lacking, so I found another way to use LinuxSampler via LSCP, but kept the Carla backend connection, thus the choice available between LS and Carla (SFZero). sfizz could be a good addition if it has some advantages. But like I said, personnally, at the moment LS serves my needs.

Mainly licensing concerns, but also to me sfizz seems to be the SFZ-related project with the most development drive behind it at the moment and the sanest general practices. For me Linuxsampler never really worked well in terms of SFZ support and performance.
