[ANN] Vee One Suite 0.8.6 - The End of Autumn'17 release

Post by rncbc »

Wholly greetings!

The Vee One Suite of so called old-school software instruments, synthv1, as a polyphonic subtractive synthesizer, samplv1, a polyphonic sampler synthesizer, drumkv1 as yet another drum-kit sampler and padthv1 as a polyphonic additive synthesizer, are here released just in time for the merry season greetings.

As before, all available in dual standard forms:
- a pure stand-alone JACK client with JACK-session, NSM (Non Session management) and both JACK MIDI and ALSA MIDI input support;
- a LV2 instrument plug-in.

The almost common change-log for this end-of-season follows:
- Sync option added to DCO wavetable oscillators, as for making either one to hard-sync (slave) with the other one (master) in each pair. (applies to synthv1 only)
- Micro-fade-in/out that were stapled at the loop start/end points respectively is now gone.(applies to samplv1 only)
- Set on a minimum attack time of 500usec as much to prevent audible clicking on low-pitched notes.

The Vee One Suite are free, open-source Linux Audio software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later.

The sync feature should be LOTS of fun indeed! :)

I assume this new release is backwards-compatible with presets made with earlier releases..?

Great to hear! :)
I'm currently testing out Librazik-2, a very nice distro. It doesn't have this latest version in the repos yet, but I can't wait to try it out!

I've had a chance to test out the sync function. As I understand it, getting the sync effect requires that one of the two oscillators must be able to detune significantly away from the other oscillator (ie 2-3 octaves), in order for the waveform resetting to be noticeable.
Perhaps the sync should be linked to the other synth? (Synth 1 with Synth 2)
Or, there would need to be more detuning "spread" between oscillator 1 and 2. (current detuning is iirc about 1 wholetone)

Hoping to hear everyone's thoughts,
brian

yes, correct, the new Sync options do indeed assume that one of the DCOs are detuned from the other one...

however there's this catch speciality on the vee-one:
a. none of the DCO's is Sync'ed : the Detune parameter applies symmetrically to both DCO's, DCO1 runs on fc - detune, DCO2 on fc + detune; this is the way the synthv1 works since day one ;)
b. either one of the DCO's is Sync'ed to the other one:the Detune parameter applies only to the slaved/sync'ed DCO running on either fc -/+ detune (DCO2/1) while the master always runs on fc no more no less (DCO1/2);
nb. fc = note/pitch central frequency.

Hi rncbc,
thanks for your post. Unfortunately, I still don't see how to use sync on Synthv1. Do you have a preset you can share where it is used?
