Re: [ANN] JDXi Manager- a Roland JD-Xi Editor
alien -d name.rpm converts rpm to deb
alien -r name.deb converts deb to rpm
alien is available in most distro package managers,
and uses a dependency, dpkg which is a standard in debian.
An rpm would be great, but if time is short, your time may be better spent perfecting the editor itself.
Linux people are well equipped to distribute the app in various forms once it's out there.
Cheers

I suspect Fedora and Suse musicians are 95% of the rpm users, if you've used common componantstux99 wrote:I could make a rpm package as I know how to do those but then I would have to do many of them for all the different rpm based distros, so again not enough time for that.
for the editor gui, the rpm will likely work in either, and more. I've used suse and fedora rpms for yoshimi,
qtractor, a2jmidid, and wineasio, among others, in pclinuxos, before such things were added
to their repos, as well as converted many .debs to rpm, including bitwig.
Where there is a will, and a great app, there is a way
The scripted installers used by U-he, ardour, and Mixbus are great for end-users,
maybe that would be an easy alternative in the future?

Try my attached patchtux99 wrote:The only thing that I didn't get working in Linux is the Audio via USB that the JD-Xi provides (I haven't tried recent kernels and ALSA versions so it might work with those), but I simply use the analog stereo output of the JD-Xi connected to my sound card input.
Note: The JD-Xi will only work if the first Midi In is opened by the computer. Therefore it is best to start jack with midi driver = seq.

Thanks.Drumfix wrote:Try my attached patch
I guess this is a kernel patch? For which kernel version is it?
Is this patch for USB Audio when the JD-Xi is set to Vendor mode?
I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say with that.Drumfix wrote:Note: The JD-Xi will only work if the first Midi In is opened by the computer.
Re: [ANN] JDXi Manager- a Roland JD-Xi Editor
Yes a kernel patch for the JD-Xi vendor mode. Can be applied to any kernel version.
If you are in vendor mode, then the MIDI In must be read from all the time, otherwise the JD-Xi will be internally blocked.
You see that the Tap button is not blinking and the sequencer won't start.
If you start reading from the USB Midi In (e.g. using aseqdump or when jack midi is activated), the JD-Xi will work normally.
PS: Updated patch file
The patch file must be copied to the main linux source directory (where you usually call "make") and applied with "patch -p1 <jdxi.patch.txt"

Ok, got it thanks, now I just have to find the time to do a kernel rebuild (haven't done it in a long time, last time was 6 or 7 years ago ).

For my Roland Fantom XR, I use Roland Fantom-X Editor in Wine. I don't think there's a Linux version, but in Wine, it works very well. No crashes at all.tux99 wrote:Why wine when there's is a native Linux version?

Here is a brief overview video of the JDXi Manager (Windows version, but as mentioned earlier, the Linux version is practically identical except for slight font differences):

Re: [ANN] JDXi Manager - a Roland JD-Xi Editor
Some discussion about the JD-Xi itself developed here, which is kind of off-topic since this thread is about the editor. I've split this off to its own thread at viewtopic.php?f=59&t=19378 .
