Re: A new Low...
And look again what you've done on KVR : once again a "going nuts" thread showing a very bad idea of Linux audio possibilities. People just flaming each other : sterile. Of course, I may believe that you are just sincere and enthusiastic, but think twice before flooding, and you"ll have less problems.

Oh, this is something I totally want, but I'm currently working on https://libre-gaming.net/tramp wrote:And while we are on it, how stupid is that: http://www.fossmusicians.com
it should be

I think Libre Music Productions needs a forum like this one.

Re: A new Low...
I think calling it a new low is far too strong, it is something someone disagrees with. I for one am grateful for those who give their time keeping this place going and throwing a scene is a bad way to start s mature discussion. I personally have no problem with commercial Linux software but would prefer not to have sale spam in the forums.

Re: A new Low...
In other news, 'a new low' is also the name of the latest album by 'Vapors of MORPHINE': http://www.vaporsofmorphine.com/posts/a-new-low/ .
I personally feel they went a bit over the top with the effects and overdubs - though perhaps it just takes a couple more listens to appreciate it . I had the opportunity to see them live a while back, which was a joy - highly recommended if you're into this sort of thing.

FOSS rather than FLOSS?
That's really your best shot?
In google search: foss software has 974,000 hits
In google search: floss software has only 574,000 hits
So you've got no cause to imply my stupidity,
as the numbers fail to back you up.
The example was just a reminder that the title for
renaming this website to suit the big fish, is readily available.
1. In general, you're misquoting my deleted post, and it's intent, quite badly.
2. I would never call a coder stupid.
3. I would never suggest a purchase of software
unless I know it works well. In this case,
U-he/discoDSP are the among the Mercedes Benz class of plugins,
and the linux ports are widely known to be stable
for productivity, and buyers everywhere know to verify
before they buy.
4, As to the ! exclamation mark, I really can't be bothered
with punctuation, when trying to save good people money,
and help them obtain world-class linux software.
I have many times, and in many forums, mentioned sale pricing,
quality, compatabilty, features and foibles, etc etc of soundcards, amplifiers,
computer gear, softwares, any items of consideration in the studio,
based on my experience, or reports from knowlegable sources,
that might benfit linux musicians, and musicians in general.
In over 10,000 posts, this was the first and only one deleted
for mentioning how/when to save people some money.
How hard would it have been to leave a note,
'Hey, I've moved this topic over to _this_ forum over here,
where products that cost money, or are closed source, may be discussed'?
Out in the large pond, it's the holiday shopping season.
I believe linux musicians deserve to know when great products
can be had at the best prices ever.
So now, floss/foss warriors, don't you dare discuss the price of
any linux compatable soundcard, video card, cpu, monitor, speakers,
mixers, recorders, keyboards, guitars, daw software, plugins,
or anything else that costs money. Das ist verboten!
And whatEVAHHH you do, don't put these words into google;
mod linux guitar
The results will reveal many posts at many locations
of .....shhhawwwkkkkk!!! .......a product that will be sold
for teh eeevvviiilllll $MONEY$ Parents, quick, cover the childrens eyes!
Myself, I like the simple life motto, 'first, do no harm.'
It works well, get's good reviews, is priced right,
and most importantly, it's not closed source. I believe
by highlighting this little misadventure we'll have the good results
of clarifying strongly held opinions, which might even lead
to a forum with a few new subforums, to diversify and expand
the content available to the members and visitors.
Cheers

get it now?.com - Commercial: Currently, this is the most popular extension, it’s chosen by almost companies and business,…
.org - Organization: It’s usually used for non-profit organization,…
What? the hell do you talk about?glowrak guy wrote:1. In general, you're misquoting my deleted post, and it's intent, quite badly.

However, please stop winning, no reason to propel a dead donkey through the village. All this leads to nothing.

On the road again.
Re: A new Low...
Given that here are examples of commercial software which is Open Source (for example Darwin OS, which is the core of many Apple commercial operating systems), I would imagine that the "Free/Libre Taliban" that despises Satan's money would go with FLOSS rather then FOSS, regardless of FLOSS being less popular (although more accurate).glowrak guy wrote: 4. Anyway, I totally see your point glowrak guy, don't get me wrong. For example, I more than once recommended Guitarix here and in other forums since, in my opinion, it is the best physically modelled effects software around (including commercial stuff). But that's the only reason I gave, which isn't much: experience is not evidence nor is objective. In that case I was not considered as spamming advertising tho.
So, I totally agree we should supply as much evidence and objectivity as possible, avoiding spam and hype-of-the-moment posts.
Still, I also think there is maybe too much over-sensibility about this when it comes to commercial software.
Just my 2 cents guys, I don't mean to offend anybody. Also, I didn't read the original post, so I am only thinking in general terms.

Re: A new Low...
Nice! I really enjoyed Morphine (the band) back in the days. It's good to see they still play some Sandman material and kept that sound.raboof wrote:In other news, 'a new low' is also the name of the latest album by 'Vapors of MORPHINE': http://www.vaporsofmorphine.com/posts/a-new-low/ .

Otherwise, yeah, this thread is becoming more and more pointless...

+1 for RMS I'd also vote for the Marketplace forum. Remember that Freedom 1 explicitly allows commercial distribution of free software.CrocoDuck wrote:I would imagine that the "Free/Libre Taliban" that despises Satan's money would go with FLOSS rather then FOSS, regardless of FLOSS being less popular (although more accurate).

I've created this at viewforum.php?f=59 - let me know if there's any problems with it, as phpBB's permissions systems sometimes plays tricks on me .FaTony wrote:I'd also vote for the Marketplace forum.

Looks like there's a permission issue though:
