Wow. Just pay if you can afford. Open source community needs this kind of modern GUIs.

ZynAddSubFX has always been top-sounding synth, and it has large set of good presets. Massive, Virus, ZynAddSubFX - just equally jaw-dropping.

Wanted to ask how stable this is for those that are using this? I'm planning to use something like this live so can't have any crashes or weird GUI issues. Anyone using this in a live situation?

Also how does a headless setup work? Could it work with touchscreen Android tablet on the same network? I just made the purchase and there's not much documentation on setup

There's nothing magic about a live setup, so your tests in home/studio
will reveal any issues. You can minimize issues by using a stripped-down linux,
and using the bios to disable everything not needed for music,
including power management, bluetooth, and networking. So knowing your system
cooling limits will be important. Make sure hal isn't polling the dvd,
disable any automatic apps, like screensavers and cron activities.

I have my qjackctl priority at the 89 maximum, which requires
the priority in /etc/security/limits.conf to be at 99, to prevent
system intrusions into the audio flow. Try both the custom, and standard gui's,
and verify any differences in workflow and behavior.

I think yoshimi is set up for more headless usage, with a learning curve
that could be quite rewarding for a show that remains fairly consistant.

Droppage and theft are perhaps the most important considerations.
An ssd reduces the moving-parts falabilities, and securing usb cables
will be good luck.

Would you mind briefly elaborate why you think yoshimi is better for this use case?

Purely based on the yoshimi project update texts that appear from time to time,
so no firsthand experience. I found this link, which discusses using zyn with android...

Hey Fundamental I just finished my first service using Zyn-Fusion live and sad to say it wasn't stable at all. I had to reboot twice for some reason to finally bind MIDI mappings, saving bindings/master escapes me as it doesn't load, and a few other quirks. Not sure if it's because I'm using Elementary OS with the KXStudio repos but it was quite unstable in my experience. I'm gonna try a different OS to see if helps.

Have you checked that Zyn-Fusion's config file permissions are set
for the audio user? Not a big fan of /opt as an install base location,
when /usr/bin and /usr/share are historic. Bitwig and Mixbus also
install in /opt, maybe it's perceived by devs as being less cluttered?

Is Fusion the only zyn version installed? Perhaps there are
old/other zyn related configs somehow getting checked by the new version?

I'd try a stripped down debian based linux like Bodhi, as a base for live performance.
Very little audio is on the iso, so easy to quarantine things for deep testing.

Hi,

maybe this was asked before but I didn't find it. I'm using Zynfusion (3.0.0) in Reaper and when trying to save an instrument via FILE->SAVE INSTRUMENT I can't write anything into the text window. The keyboard just don't work. What works is to make a file in the file explorer named e.g. test.xiz, choose this and hit ENTER in zynfusion. Anyone awareof how to get the keyboard working?

That sounds like a bug that was resolved after 3.0.0. Where did you get zynfusion? Can you update?

This is what I have installed:

When using the Zynfusion-VST in REAPER it tells me, that it's version 3.0.0.

That´s not the problem here. The same happens with ARDOUR and Zynfusion. REAPER is quite stable btw. ... I had more crashes with ARDOUR + plugins.

Yeah, the number on the info has always been 3.0.0, I don't think Fundamental ever updated it. If you downloaded that, you should have the correct version.

FM modulation should be in the drop-down list of the Modulation tab, listed as "Frequency". Although I'd recommend using "Phase" for typical FM sounds.
So, I have the new version of the zynfusion VST, but still not working in ARDOUR and in REAPER. It's working in Qtractor though..

I can't recall the status of keyboard input for reaper off the top of my head, but to get keyboard events in ardour you have to bypass the host capture of those events. IIRC this was something like a green keyboard icon in ardours's GUI.
