Of course the hosting of the SFZ archive and related projects will continue as always..

This is exactly what I was waiting for -- a 64-bit debian testing based/compatible audio distro.

I agree. Making a rolling-release audio distro, really looks like a step in the right direction. Good luck Glen. And best wishes.

On the other hand stability is important for an audio distro. Testing is ok now because Jessie is freezed, but sometimes it can be broken. And then you need to know well how to deal with Debian tools to fix the stuff (preferences, snapshots repos, apt-get, aptitude, etc.). That's the reason why Linux Mint Debian moved from a rolling release distro to regular update packages for example (correct me if i'm wrong).
But don't get me wrong, i hope the best for the future of AVLinux.

Great idea to use KX studio repos and avoid duplication of effort.

You make a good point and obviously by hanging in there with Debian Squeeze for so long stability has always been a top priority for me but unfortunately nothing in the Linux world is designed to get much more than 2 years out of a distribution base (with AV Linux up until now *pardon the pun I "squeezed" more than 4!)

I think if people are using any Operating System for media production whether is is brand new or 4 years old common sense dictates the "ain't broke don't fix" method, just because an update is available today doesn't mean it has to be installed today especially if you are in mid-production. It's true that Debian testing has potential for breakage but a little patience and restraint on the part of the user can mitigate at least some of the risk and usually with good user bug reporting many issues are sorted out in a day or so and if worse comes to worse snapshot.debian.org is as you said, a useful fallback resource. To my way of thinking if you download today's Debian testing snapshot and install it you are getting no guarantees, future AV Linux ISO's will simply be Audio-centric more feature-complete snapshots with better quality control. My part in this as I see it is to provide a solid fully functional and well thought out base system periodically and leave the choice up to the user as to whether they will tempt fate by blindly updating daily or update as their need requires. A secondary safety feature will be an included backup utility (most likely systemback) so the user can create and preserve a working snapshot and restore in the case of major problems, but if people don't take advantage of this kind of convenience then I can't make it benefit them..

You are absolutely right and I couldn't be happier that I won't have to custom package stuff already done so well by falkTX, The roots of AV Linux up until now pre-dated falkTX's fortuitous entry into the Linux Audio world and now with a fresh start this will really streamline everything, it is my hope that I can maybe provide some of the AV Linux utilities and some of the Video-centric stuff packages for the repos in the future if time allows too, although unfortunately falkTX will still be doing most of the the heavy-lifting..

agree as well, good to hear that you will move on to the testing branch, that means to me that I could start to drop support for the old stable.

does anyone know if lightworks will work on av linux. It doesnt work on 12.04 ubuntu due to some newer packages that you can only get in ubuntu 14.04 (libtiff5 being one of them) and i refuse to be forced onto the "latest and greatest" release. Especially since ive had issues with kernels past 3.11 mainly it just does not boot or if it does crashes within minutes of loging in.

Nope... it only works on 64bit so it doesn't work on the current AV Linux (6.X) but it should work on future 64bit versions, unless they keep changing the dependencies or rely on Ubuntu-only libs..

Not to derail the thread, but 14.04 is a long term support release and 14.10 has been released since so its no longer latest and greatest. I'm running 14.04 on several machines and have been pretty happy with it. I plan to keep it until 16.04. Though a rolling release distro is starting to be more and more tempting. Obviously ymmv, but I thought I'd throw that out there.
