Nootka needs testing

Post by SeeLook »

Hi!
I would like to ask some KXStudio users and others to test new Nootka version.
Whole audio layer was changed so all related things should be checked on different sound configurations.
FalkFX preparing package for KXStuidio, so apt-get install nootka will be sufficient there,
but there are deb and sources:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nootka/ ... 0-prebeta/

Any issues call through:
http://sourceforge.net/p/nootka/bugs/

Thanks in advance

I have tested the 32bit deb on AVLinux. AVlinux does not use pulse audio, so either Alsa or Jack must be used.

Alsa - audio works! (hear guitar notes if select notes on fret board with mouse). Also was able to midi out on either "midi through" or "RtMidi Output Client" which apparently is the Nookta alsa midi output (suggest change port name to Nootka)

Jack - Does not work.
- No Jack audio midi ports are created (nothing visible in QJackCtl)
- Settings->Sound->Listening->input device lists "system" and "a2j" as choices. The "a2j" is a Jack midi port so it should not be listed with Audio ports.
- On Settings->Sound->playing->"real audio output" I again see both Jack audio andJack midi ports listed which makes no sense. Selecting
"system" does not create any Jack audio ports however.
- alsa midi output works as before (as expected)

I have played a bit with the 64 version, deb package downloaded from sourceforge.

It works out of the box in ubuntu raring, via pulseaudio. I haven't tested anymore, sorry.

Thank You a lot!
varpa - you save me a lot of probing of JACK as long as I haven't have got a deal with it so far.
It seems I got it working too much easy - RtAudio offers this but I have small control on it.
I will check it closely but also I'm considering to get rid of JACK. (Nootka doesn't need its functions)
but let's see...

The midi part is "old" and from very beginning I thought this "Midi Through0" is some Alsa quasi device.
In fact I never got this working.
If You know that this is dummy and do nothing and only some Timidity or fluidsync ports work I will filter it in code.

Fortunately PulseAudio works - previously it took my easy dreams....

I knew I can count on you.
