Konfyt is a digital keyboard workstation for Linux which allows you to set up patches, each with multiple layers, and instantly switch between these patches for live keyboard playing. Patches may consist of multiple layers of soundfonts (.sf2), SFZ instruments, audio input ports and MIDI output ports. Konfyt features a library for quick access to soundfont programs and SFZs.

Documentation can be found at Read the Docs:

Hi,

thanks for Konfyt, it converts my MIDI-Keyboard into an instrument, :-)

Is it possible to boost/gain the velocity for cheap keyboards? I found the MIDI filter to limit the receiving velocity, but what does 'Velocity Limit Min/Max' mean? Especially for piano patches I found it useful to put a little 'gain' on the MIDI velocity values to tweak the velocity curve.

Is this possible or should I use an external plugin?

That looks like a note velocity "clipper". In other words, if you set Velocity Limit Min to 30, then any notes with a velocity less than 30 (ie, the softest notes) automatically get clipped to 30. And if you set Velocity Limit Max to 100, then notes with a velocity greater than 100 (ie, the loudest notes) get clipped to 100.

If that's the case, then just keep raising the "Velocity Limit Min" until the softest notes are loud enough for your tastes. You've effectively compressed the dynamic range. The softer notes are now less soft compared to the loud notes.

Or are you trying to expand the dynamic range? (You want the soft notes to be even softer, and the loud notes to be louder). It's hard to tell based upon your question.

That's correct. Raising the "Velocity Limit Min" will raise the lower velocities to the minimum level. It might give you the effect you're looking for - "boost/gain" of the soft notes. If you want more control over the velocity curve, you could use Mididings, or some MIDI plugin of course.

Hi,

thanks for the answers, I found a "MIDI Velocity Adjust" plugin, where an offset for a 'gain' can be added:

IMHO you have to hit the keys very hard on some keyboards to reach maximum velocity.

Probably what Niles should do is simplify that whole dialog by just giving a radio button labeled "Velocity Range" with 5 choices:

Greatest
Greater
Normal
Lesser
Least

Of course the first 2 expand the range, and the last 2 compress. Much easier for an enduser to setup.
