AVL-MXE 2021.06.18 64bit ISO fix uploaded.

Post by GMaq »

Hi LM's!

It was necessary to put up a fresh ISO of the 64bit AVL-MXE with some fixes, details here:

Great news! I was able to apply all the "fixes" in the link successfully. Is there any way to apply the Whisker menu fix as well?

That's a good question! Slipped my mind.. :(

1. Ok so right-click on the Whisker menu button and select 'Properties', the Whisker menu settings dialog will open..

2. Go to the 'Commands' tab and edit as shown in the Picture below:

Thanks! Works fine. It was one of those things that bugs me but doesn't really affect anything meaningful. OCD. :D

I found a little bug on this updated release, if you try to add any program shortcut to the Desktop, it's simply not displayed at all, although of you go to /home/user/Desktop the shortcut is there. Go figure

Hi Rodney,

It's not a bug it's a feature actually, if you have a look at the User Manual page 26 you will see that the Openbox Window Manager doesn't actually "manage the Desktop". The rationale for using Openbox is to lighten XFCE4 because with every release it grows in it's memory usage significantly and by eliminating the 'xfdesktop' manager and replacing xfwm with Openbox I've shaved off about 200mb or so of memory consumption (even more on 32bit systems). The drawback is you can't put icons on the Desktop but of course we still have the XFCE4 whisker menu and application launchers can be added to the XFCE4-panel.

Oh nice, that's great then! Not a big deal at all the whole shortcut thing, if that speeds up the computer's performance.

Thank you very much Glenn! You are awesome!

In general, is the systemD version better or worse for basic audio recording
than the version without it?

Are there any known hardware issiues that would effect one's choice at boot time?
Cheers

Hi, One of the great things about MX is this unique choice to be able to take advantage of..

The answer to your question will be as variable as the software and hardware on the system. As an example on our studio box which basically runs Ardour and that's about it I boot without systemd and on my house/development Desktop I need systemd for my VPN and VMWare to work so I boot with systemd. I see no discernible performance differences really. It's trivially easy to simply boot and try each option on your own hardware.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Makes sense to me. I ask because I get some strange hard lockups,
usually after several hours of use and it's very random, it can be during a text edit, when using a media player, or routine filemanagement tasks etc. I'll do some google searches and see if I can narrow it down to something I can change.
Cheers

Hi Gennaro!

AVL-MXE has a lot of customization built into the ISO and there is no repository way to crossgrade from MX 19.4 to AV Linux.. They are related but different enough that you need to install one or the other..
