Were do most Hip Hop samples come from ?

Even you don't like hip hop, but do like old soul and funk, this is an interesting series.

Dj Functual , barely functional.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfqlG8gSkeA

This is not Ice Cube, ......its the isley brothers
This is not Dr Dre ...

And so on, he has over 50 vids like this. I need to make notes and get some of those damn good originals. :)

He also has vids like this, were he does not play the modern hip hop track, which sampled it or recreated it.
He just raps along or tells us, while playing the original.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZQE-cc ... pA&index=3

Sadly some of his vids get taken down, copy rights bs.

(sarcastic, the record companies don't want you to know were they stole it from ?)

Loop the break, add a drum computer and we have another hit.
I cant help it though, I am a Hip Hop fan. :)

Which reminds me:
That one time were my cover in LMMS was 100% in sync with the original was a hip hop track. I think this proofs it was made on a pc or mac too.

Ice Cube - Gangster Rap made me do it (instrumental).

Thank you, this will take some time though. :D

Been already looking.listening a lot on the possibility of covering, mostly older hip hop, Funk.

Or maybe an original that got sampled.

A few problems there, scratching being one, but a even bigger issue for me. The guitars.
Often funk inspired or straight out funk.

Maybe one day, with a guitar vst.

https://soundcloud.com/you/history

That comes damn close. Ample Guitar F Funk Expansion

Good times Chic (Rappers Delight)

There are a lot of problems with some music I like, at least as in to recreate it in a program like LMMS.
A classic hip house example. ( the Boy shout and bring the noise are samples from public enemy)

This track could be made 100% of samples and scratching. I might do some investigating.

I am hoping that fade to grey will be my last cover in a long time though. :)

It's been a while since i've used it as i found it to be a bit limiting for my wants, but things are doable. AudioFileProcessor, Sf2 Player and VeSTige all got quite the workout for just those little touches that you mentioned, but it takes some tinkering.

For what you want, it seems like samples and loop libraries are the way to go to build and roll your own tunes. And there's no shortage of freebies available out there as you may already know. https://primeloops.com/ for starts has a bunch of good free stuff to dig into.

Am i correct in thinking that LMMS only supports 32 bit vsts ?

Yes, on Linux only 32 bit vst.
On Windows it does support 64 bit, but I am not 100% sure on this.

Through Carla though, maybe.

There are some problems with Carla on openSUSE, from the official repositories.

Not everything that Carla can do does works. Nor I, nor the package maintainer could figure why.

What does work, I could use Amsynth in LMMS through Carla.

Which reminds me I still need to try geekos daw.
It's like the KX repositories but then for openSUSE.
It should work on tumbleweed too.

Maybe one day I will try to cover Turn up the bass, Using the public enemy samples is not that hard.
As you say use the audio file processor in LMMS, cut from the Public enemy mp3, with audacity the needed samples.

Move in the piano roll the note to get the sampled right on time.

I better stop right here, already start to wonder if both samples are from the same public enemy track.
( bring the noise and Boy )

Bring the noise also has a kinda hardrock version.
Public enemy with Anthrax

And yes, at the start, flavor flav says Boy . So both samples in Turn Up The Bass are from Bring The Noise
Almost hardrock version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl1hgXfX5-U

The original with just Public enemy, and the source of the samples.

Boy at 0.18

All three maintainers (@joboschetti and @Kott and myself) are on Tumbleweed now, so... :D

I sometime hit Who Sampled when I hear something that itches my ears and that can't remember where I heard it.
