Obituary thread for musicians

Post by Basslint »

DMX just passed away and I thought it would be nice to have an obituary thread for all deceased musicians, a place to drop by to share news, pay our respects and share our memories.

Despite being a hip hop fan, I never got into DMX for some reason. Now that I am discovering what I've missed out, I deeply regret it! He had a very rough life but worked hard to escape what hurt him, seeking the truth in his music. RIP

I just learned from @Rainmak3r that two members of Cynic (Sean Reinert and Sean Malone) died in 2020. I have been a fan of the band for a long time but this news did not reach me until now. RIP

Genesis, the band. Died in 1977 after Steve Hackett left.

This could become a long thread. I see mentions of old musicians departing this mortal coil several times a week on the news.

Now you made me listen to "Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind And Wuthering". Never listened to much after "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" before.

Although I did not mean this thread for jokes, I agree with you that his departure negatively impacted Genesis but I think the band did not necessarily become much worse in the 80s, just different!

Thanks for posting that, the blues rock genre is not generally bass virtuoso territory and certainly the ZZ Top albums after Deguello did not really have Dusty's bass represented up front but the 1970's albums really showcase what an incredibly tight trio they were and their 1980 show at Rockpalast really documents how integral Dusty was to the signature ZZ sound, his timing and tone are impeccable. The band is continuing on their current tour but it will never be quite the same without the Dust!

RIP one of the greatest reggae greats, Lee "Scratch" Perry.
I still have a genuine Lee "Scratch" Perry frisbee I scored from a gig working with the man many years ago, it's a prized possession.
