An interesting 20-minute TED talk by drummer extraordinaire Jojo Mayer on the role of drums in Western culture.

"TEDxZurich - Jojo Mayer - Exploring the distance between 0 and 1"

I've listen to the drum performances contained in that talk now twice ... they're awesome. Such an expressive approach to playing drums. And the last one with the brushes on the snare is mesmerizing.

Specified the subject just a bit. And added this live 37-minute performance of Mayer's Nerve band at the Hinterhof in Basel:

"Jojo Mayer & Nerve - Live in Europe (Hinterhof, Basel)"

A very interesting interview where Jojo Mayer addresses the status of music today, amongst other things. Posted a few days ago on Drum Talk Russia. Music reaching critical mass, creating musical commentaries to society, the fear of loosing money, negotiation between security and freedom, opposed ideals, freedom as basis of curiosity, understanding who someone is and the importance in creating music, analysis and listening, honesty and courage, the role of meditation, digital and analog, social networks, many topics addressed by this great drummer. And there are also excerpts of performances from a concert in Moscow in the interview.
