Please identify this classical piece

Post by Michael Willis »

My wife has taken up practicing violin after not really playing for about 25 years. This morning she shared a memory of having learned a classical piece during her childhood, and was able to hum the first phrase. She wants to re-learn how to play it. I reproduced the first phrase as a midi track in Ardour, I'm wondering if anybody can help us identify it:

We're thinking that it's a minuet from the late 1700s, but we don't really know.

That is a Menuett in G Major from J.S. Bachs notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach (a book which J.S. Bach collected pieces for her and let guests write in, too) most
likely written by Christian Petzold.

It is in BWV Addendum 114 (Bach Werkeverzeichnis Anhang 114)

Thanks! That is indeed the right piece. I think we got hung up thinking that the melody I captured was the intro, but it comes later.
