amping a sax on a mono track

Post by zeelog »

I have a mono wave file with drums, bass, and guitar on it and the
melody line is being done by a sax. I think the sax is not loud enough
and I was wondering how I could amp it without altering any of the
other instruments on this mono wave file ? I have no idea what frequencies
the sax is playing at, but its a basic moderate melody. No big highs or lows.
Is there any Linux software I could use to isolate and amp the sax ?

no way man, if the drink is mixed you wont get the whiskey out of it.
you could add more whiskey, but you'll need a saxplayer :-)

I think you're basically out of luck. If it were just bass+drum+sax it might be possible with just some EQ'ing (bass+drum would not be entirely unaffected but it might not be all too noticable). The guitar however is probably in the same frequency ranges as the sax, so that'll be mostly impossible to extract (on Linux or any other system)...

Thank you for all for the replies. At least now I know what can not be done,
so I'll just have to leave it be and work on something else.
