Re: Are there any big artists that use FOSS software?
Hello, bumping this thread for a good reason: it seems that BT (Brian Transeau) uses CSound, (from his reddit AMA), as well as SuperCollider (from this interview).

Another libre program spotted in the wild: producer Madeon says his favorite VST is MDA ePiano! (source: https://old.reddit.com/r/edmproduction/ ... n/c8c2i0p/)

The legendary Roger Linn (of LinnDrum and Akai MPC fame) using Surge (GPLv3, here)

Starting with the premises that many hardware devices use the Linux kernel, about about an operating system based on Linux + JUCE which runs on one of Matthew Bellamy's (Muse) guitars?

He used it in the Simulation Theory World Tour so I guess he's a Linuxmusician too

Re: Are there any big artists that use FOSS software?
Finally found one: Sevish! I've been listening to this dude's music for a couple of years probably and only now I discovered (by watching this video) that he actually uses KXStudio and a bunch of FLOSS programs like Amsynth, Zyn-fusion, the veeone suite by @rncbc, etc. (here is his setup)!

Latest album by The Real Thing is mixed in Ardour (source, seems trustworhty since you can find Graham Gallimore on the band's Facebook page and ask him yourself!)

Also, two prog rock albums on which Ben Bell from Fusion Orchestra 2 worked were produced in Ardour:

Nice website to keep track of these things! I found many artists using FLOSS (or FLOSS-based) programs!porzione wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 4:40 pm Also Surge https://equipboard.com/items/vember-aud ... ynthesizer

The concept and possibility of being 'big' misses most of the worlds musicians. Assuming those
pondering the question even arrive at some consensus regarding the definition of 'big'.
Congrats on the million, it wasn't an accident or blind luck that achieved that!

Re: Are there any big artists that use FOSS software?
Well, "big" was very loose, I think. The original intent of my contributions was to backtrace: find more popular artists to "settle the issue" of FLOSS not being good enough for professional work, then add others. To me, Sevish, who is not "big" in the Britney Spears sense but is a well-respected artist in electronic and experimental music circles, kinda closes the deal, so I am for renaming the thread to "pro artists".glowrak guy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 8:33 am The concept and possibility of being 'big' misses most of the worlds musicians.
