Help! Stuck on 3rd of 4 triads

Post by D-Tuned »

I'm trying to spiff up a single-coil intro to MY liking but ran into
a block. The image shows what I'm thinking of i.e to strike
simple triads on the high strings followed by the note in the
original intro. Got as far as G/D & D/A only ..the reds are
supposed to become triads.

Any suggestions? Why am I stuck? Anything I try on 3 strings
around those frets sounds BAAAaaaaD, thank you

I tried it on piano and landed on this:

G/D, D/A, Bm/F#, C/E

Tried it on guitar, best try went there, nice one though it might not be directly related to EDM ;)

The second chord -- from the top down F# D G -- is not D. You could call it Gmaj7.

That's from the 5th song I'm going to learn (linked it in another thread). Seems to me that I get to hit the cue better by playing the intro and from it cutting into the lead than by just counting-in, that probably comes with experience :-)

The top staff is is the stock setup, the intro overlaps the initial lead. So by simplifying and jazzing up the intro I figure I'll be adding a personal touch and improving it too.

Thank you, I should've added that the song is in G, not that it would matter much to real musicians. This little exercise really learned me the reach of chord 'voicing', never thought it would make the difference between OK and forgetitt!

Oh, EDM, like Electronic Dance Music? I've been riding another train for half a century

This is mostly good, but there are a few mistakes.

Time signature and key signature would be nice. If you used a key signature you wouldn't have to keep sharpening the Fs. Do you realise this is in 3/4?

First bar -- Rests don't get dotted. A rectangle hanging down from the D line is a whole bar rest no matter what the time signature is.

In the third bar the TAB and the notation don't match up. The G in the notation should be an A.

In the fourth bar (the one with the blue chord) we now have a bar of 5/4. The notation shows a Bm triad, while the TAB shows a Gsus4.

In the fifth bar the TAB and the notation don't match up. The TAB shows, from the top down, C G E.

In the seventh bar there is the same mistake in the notation where the G should be an A.

I think I saw 6/8 in rosegarden; the song key is G but the notation sig is not shown which means common which I use for such work because it forces on me the use of explicit accidentals. For this kind of work I don't even want automatic accidentals in the same bar, or any bars anywhere at all fro that matter :-)

It's rosegarden output

thanks, I should have indicated that the lyrics line was for the single notes

here's the last edition, maybe there's a name for what I'm trying to do, which is just replacing the single notes with triads of sorts, three notes an octave each side would maybe do just as well

I forgot, what's the difference between D/A and DOA? Or is DOA something else?

That Bm/F# is very close to what came out as my G in Chorderator, though it sounds a bit like it wants to go in another direction. I edited into the rosegarden file to hear it better and will keep it as an alternative. Another point of importance is that I need fingering that is right there on the top strings close to the frets used, loki's GM7 is very close too. With my DGCFAD tuning I could do that as a GM7_0407 fubar (root on string 4 @ fret 7 for merlyn)

The tab and notation don't match up here :

Image

The tab says A on the fourth string, the notation says G.

I see you mentioned Gmaj7, and that's what the notation says here. Gmaj7 without a third (B).

I can take your calling me out when you're wrong but don't really take to it when you're right :D

Sonofagun I don't know how that got in there. I must have been thinking GM7 when doing the notation in rosegarden and of D/A when writing the (DGCFAD) tab. I did say though that these were very close, as is Michael's Bm7, so close in fact that 'running' the staff in rosegarden and picking my way on the guitar as per the tab I noticed no difference either as one vs.the other or even as the notation played in the context of the rest of the RG midi file. This must mean that the job is a ReleaSe-Candidate!

Sothen, by way of a thank you note I'll have you know that, as I found out last night, even rosegarden REJECTS the "/" in the lyrics editor, which is why I used the "|" instead. Next time I'll use my own "¦".

If we take the given as this :

We could do this :

where I've remembered to the resolve at the end. :)
