Jack-rack

Post by Linuxmusician01 »

Here's my Jack-rack Howto. The "hat trick" as far as I'm concerned lies in the connections tab from Qjackcrl. Because Qjackctl is a very vague and non-intuitive application in my opinion.

I want to add sound effects like reverb, flanger and faser to my synth. A way to do this (during playing) is with Jack-rack. What I do is the following. First I start my jack server. Then I start my synth Bristol (might just as well be Fluidsynth). Then I play some notes to make sure that I've set it all up correctly.

Then I start jack-rack and I add an effect and I set it to "enable". See picture below:

Then I connect Jack-rack to my audio output w/ qjackctl, see picture:

So to add jack-rack's audio effects you should do the following:
  • Start Jack-rack and start QJackcrl. Add desired effects in Jack-rack and set them to 'enabled'.
  • In Qjackctl go to the "Connections -> Audio" tab.
  • Example: connect Bristol's 'output port' to Jack-rack's input port. And connect Jack-rack's output port to system's input port.
Enjoy your synth w/ audio effects! :)
