Vst for samba, mamba, bassanova etc.

Post by briandc »

Hi everyone,

I'd like to find something that makes these types of rhythms. There's one called Rhythmus but I couldn't get it to work with Qjack.

Any suggestions?
I don't recall Hydrogen offering these types of kits..

is it for electronic music?
if not, forget it. you can't "midi" those rhytms. I can name you some "usable" loops if you like.

Yes, I was thinking either a VST instrument or even better, using Hydrogen. But the kits I have found are pretty standard.

What loops are you suggesting?

I tested a lot of vsts, the only vst for percussion which gives you realistic sounds is Yellow Tools Culture. There are others with nice samples but you can't realy play them to sound like the real ones.

There is reasonoble percussion kit for hydrogen. might be enough for electronic music. give me some time to check my data base, also for the loops.

Ok. Another idea might be if I can find some wav, gig or soundfont percussion kits that would work..

The guys at Hydrogen recommended a drumkit called "gimme a hand," so I'll try it out, it might be just what I was looking for!..

Hi Capoeira,
I agree, it's not a good kit. But I found another that is perfect. I don't remember the kit name because it's numbers and letters. But it's the first kit that appears in my list. It has some good sounds in it, much closer to what I was looking for. When I get home tonight I'll post the name of the kit.

The kit's called 3355606kit

It's probably not the most complete, but it has a few percussion sounds I like to use. At the moment, it's the only one I'm using on Hydrogen. Otherwise, for drums, I prefer to use the GM banks for Qsynth, and play them in realtime. I just like the sound better I guess..

What about you?

Where can I find this package? I downloaded it from AvaxHome but the files are very small, probably broken waves...

Oh, ok. That probably explains why the files I had were corrupted.. :D
I'll look into it though.
Another option might be to record beats coming from my external keyboard, as wav files. If they're good enough, that is..

I'm sure that there are lots of percussion wav files out there for free, I just need to find them.. Rather than banks for Hydrogen, I could set them up together into an sfz file, if I remember correctly there's a thread here that tells how to make an sfz file..

If you want a good General MIDI kit in soundfont format, try the one I put together for my gigs:

http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt/GigDrums.sf2

For editing soundfonts, use a program called Swami.

For some MIDI drum beats: http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt/files/beats.htm

For anything MIDI, visit my web page at http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt
