Hardware:
- Clevo NH77DBQ 17.3-inch "Graphic Designer" laptop from laptopwithlinux.com, with i7-10750H 6 cores, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD, nVidia RTX-2060 (complete happiness, stable jack without xruns on stock kernel with 64 samples, 48 kHz with 3 periods)
- Tp-link powered 7-port USB hub (needs a power cycle every 3 months or so, otherwise great)
- Presonus Studio 2-6 USB audio interface (completely happy)
- Focal Alpha 8 powered speakers (nice sound, but has huge usability issues: no volume control, annoying power save)
- Little Dot II tube headphone amp (awesome price to performance ratio for pleasure listening)
- Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro closed headphones (fairly good noise blocking, used for recording and gaming etc)
- AKG K-601 open back headphones (for pleasure listening)
- Roland A-49 USB MIDI keyboard (cheap, not weighted keys, but works pretty well)
- Epiphone Korina Explorer el. guitar, Epiphone EJ-200 jumbo ac. guitar, MTD Kingston (made in Korea) 4-string bass, Fender Squier 4-string Jazz bass with diMarzio pickups
- Sonarworks XREF 20 measurement microphone
- Old MiniDSP processor between the Presonus and Focal speakers to straighten out the room bass response

Software:
- Linux Mint 20 distro
- Cadence (instead of qjackctl) for configuring and running jack2 daemon
- Pulseaudio is running at the same time and is routed through Pulseaudio JACK sinks to provide audio from Spotify and Firefox mostly (if I'm gaming, jackd is not running and pulse deals with Steam)
- New Session Manager (NSM) for restoring jack signal routing
- Carla for various things, notably handling volume control to Little Dot II and Focal speakers, which _do not have volume control_, which is just insane
- Reaper DAW for recording, mixing, mastering, everything
- Mixbus for some mastering only
- Guitarix for all my guitar and bass recording needs - I used to use Poulin amps, but I have some issues with them so I'm not using them anymore
- Currently I use linVst as bridge to run Windows VSTs
- Melda MDrummer is my only paid Windows VST, it works _almost_ perfectly... but has these issues: crash when trying to drag and drop MIDI, UI has some latency
- Bunch of free Windows VSTs (especially all free Melda plugins, Voxengo Boogex, limiter No6, TDR Nova, TDR Kotelnikov, Klangfreund LUFS meter)
- Reaper plugins are good
- Currently having some problems with lv2vst, so not using lv2-plugins in Reaper (I could use Carla to run them, but I don't feel the need)
- My favorite software instruments seem to be setBfree2 hammond, free u-he synths (Tyrell, Podolski, Zebralette), Dexed (DX-7 emulator)

That's pretty much all, please feel free to ask if you want to know more. Special mention about those Focal Alpha 8 speakers: If I'd known how annoying they are to use, I'd saved up for Genelecs.

Hardware Audio: lots of outboard gear but the important bits are Manley Voxbox (single tracking vocals), Presonus Studio Channel (single tracking instruments), various mics including Slate ML1 and ML2, Golden Age tube and condenser mics, Shure SM7B/57/58/52/91, also a lowly MXL 990 (my go to drum room mic - love it!), main monitors include Akai Pro 8" nearfields, Polk 6.5" farfields, Mixcubes. Also have some KRK Rokits from back in the day (a Massdrop special that I've outgrown)

Software: Reaper, Ubuntu 21.04
Software Caveat: I have a lot of ilok (and waves) software I haven't figured out if possible to reincorporate yet. Izotope suites, Neural DSP amp sims, Melodyne studio, Slate ML Mic Emulations, etc. So far I'm doing without. Wouldn't mind having them again, but meh, not a priority yet.

Issues: Presonus Faderport is very rarely wonky requiring a hard reset to be seen over USB. Don't think it's a hardware / usb jack issue, worked fine under Windows and MacOS.

Overall rating: I'm literally only a day in on my Linux Musician journey but I've been doing production and engineering on other systems for decades. No major complaints yet!

Software Caveat: I would like to figure out how to utilize some of the old torrented audio plugins I've hoarded from my Windows days. Pretty sure I can just use WINE, and maybe Carla. I've tried Carla before for some kind of Arturia MiniMoog VST that came with my MIDI keyboard, but it kept crashing. I'm looking more to figuring out how to actually use JACK to hook it up to trigger modular synth plugins with drums at the same time to do some crazy stuff.

Issues: I do get some occasional slight pop or weird audio artifacting while recording in Reaper in Linux, but I can't complain too too much.

Overall rating: I'm pretty glad I switched to Linux over 3 years ago. I started with Lubuntu > Debian > Devuan > Gentoo > and now Fedora on my laptop (but kept Devuan on the audio Desktop computer). Can't say I didn't learn anything though since I think Linux is far superior in a lot of ways. I don't miss games too much though as stuff like Emacs has kept me super productive in both my daily work, and my personal hobby stuff.

Software used: Ubuntu Studio 20.04 with backports, still waffling between Rosegarden and Ardour (and now Bitwig, 'cause the keyboard came with it), Carla full of plugins: PG-8X, Surge, DCO-106, Eight Voice, MDA Piano, TyrellN6, Zebralette, SQ8L; I also keep a copy of Aeolus handy because pipe organ; Hydrogen for drums (but planning on getting something like a good ol' SR16 because I'm an 80s kind of guy); VCVRack because as a kid in the 70s I always wanted a wall of modules like in the PAIA catalog and Keith Emerson's monster Moog

Overall rating: Once I got some plugin UI issues resolved (WIne-staging and Carla get into fistfights with XFCE4's Compositor, so shut it off) I'm happy as a clam at high tide.

Current projects: Wiring up an XLR patch panel so I don't have to reach behind the Fast Track every time I want to plug something in, coming up with a bulletproof software-synth worship keyboard setup for church, rearranging and partially rewriting my TSO-homage God Rest Ye/Carol of The Bells/What Child Is This? mashup for the church Christmas dinner, and getting my brain wrapped around the basics of ambient electronic music - old dog, new tricks, that sort of thing

I was in the middle of something, When I split the main keyboard up, I place a clothespin where it is split.
The drumkit is a toy, until you hook up the MIDI, then it's an instument. I designed a custom drumkit for it in Hydrogen. It is set (hardwired) to MIDI:10 which announces itself as the drums...

I tried several distros but my favourite is Ubuntu Studio (and still it is at now.)

phones: AKG

Software: Ardour (for especially audio based projects and importing/exporting to tape) or Qtractor (when working on projects with lot of MIDI). Hydrogen for most of the sampled drums; Audacity for raw editing and raw recordings, JAMin for mastering, SpinTool for quick composing loop based tunes, soundconverter for all conversions.
Several synth plugins but especially AM Synth, Guitarix for amp sim, several plugins for effects (esp. Calf, Invada, OpenAV)
