If you want to add "sounds" to your controller that you can play, such as piano, organ, strings, brass, etc, and also add auto-accompaniment, then try my "BackupBand" program at:

Author of BackupBand at https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files/
My fans show their support by mentioning my name in their signature.

Re: M-Audio MIDI controller (Oxygen Mk V NOT recommended)

Post by RyanH »

I just wanted to throw this post in here in case any future Linux Musicians find this thread while looking for advice about the Oxygen series.

I bought the Oxygen 49 Mk IV and love it. However, I was just doing some research and, unless I've missed something, with the newer, Mk V version, the midi channels and controls of each of the knobs, sliders, etc. can no longer be changed from within the keyboard itself. It has to be done in a piece of software, which is only available for Mac and Windows. :( The keyboard will still work with Linux, but for users who have gotten used to the extra customization, this could be a disappointment.

I will be extremely happy if someone corrects me on this. The Mk IV is awesome.
