Nutube technology from Korg

Nutube technology sounded interesting when Korg announced it 2 years ago:
Nutube, similar to a conventional vacuum tube, has an anode grid filament structure, and operates exactly as a triode vacuum tube. Also similar to a vacuum tube, it creates the same characteristic rich overtones. By applying their vacuum fluorescent display technology, Noritake Itron Corp., a Noritake Co. Ltd affiliated company, have devised a structure which achieves substantial power saving, miniaturization, and quality improvements when compared with a conventional vacuum tube.
But even more interesting is that the first Nutube based products are actually out at consumer level prices:

Did anyone try that?

It's basically a solid state power amp stage with a tube preamp stage, kind of like the old Music Man combo's. Personally I prefer an all-tube setup but I'll listen to some demo's first to check out how this little one stands up against its bigger kin. Interesting development though, reminds me a bit of the BLUG: http://www.bluguitar.com/english/AMP1.html.

Neat. I just use a 1W tube amp in the studio. It's a Firefly - 12AU7 power tube, 12AX7 preamp, and a switchable 12AX7 overdrive. Those tubes are easy to get and cheap enough. But it'll be nice to have other options for gigs.
Beyond the inclusion of Nutube, the pre-amp circuit in the MV50 features a staggering number of analog components that effectively reproduce the dynamic character of a traditional tube amp.
Hahaha, yeah. A friend of mine has been digging into "tube sound" for a few years (name's Mason Green; here's his 12AX7 imitation pedal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEnIDkcJGWY). The preamp is relatively easy. A tube power amp has a complex interplay between the power supply, power tubes, output transformer, and speakers. He's built a few fully solid state amps that (mostly) reproduce those effects but it's complicated. Might actually be easier to build tubes by hand. :D

Hi tnovelli

Is the Novelli in one of Mason's videos a relative of yours? I loved the sound of his Tribus pedal, shame it's discontinued, hopefully his new stuff picks up where it left off, great tone!

Yep, Pete's my dad.

Mason's thinking about a Tribus 2.0. A lot of people like it but say it's too big. He could use surface-mount components, cram everything into a double pedal, make the boost channel always-on, something like that. I said just drop the boost channel but he really wants to keep the Tribus name  and then I started messing around with it more, got some wild sounds with my Tele neck pickup.. it's a keeper.

Wow that's really cool stuff! small world sometimes

I saw Mason's name pop up when he followed my Soundcloud, A curious Google filled me in on the Tribus and I saw your Dad's great demo video (*tips hat). I'd be pretty interested in news about a Tribus 2.0. Please PM me if there are any new developments.

All the best, keep telecastin'!

Hi..i used it for my guitar. Tubes do change the sound as they amplify and it’s often said the sound is “warmer”. Without getting too deep in the rabbit hole this comes from many factors; some tube amplifiers add noise, while others have a low-frequency response and amplify the bass more than treble.
