cheap digital audio usb with 1/8" output jack?

Post by stratovarius »

I have a clip-on shelf that hold a small laptop and a few other mini-studio components fixed to the guitar amp. When I want to do without erecting this "structure" I'd like to just plug a usb media into the Boss Me-70 multi effects footboard (preferably with an incorporated lightweight equalizer) for the backing tracks. The ones I've found sofar are usb but without the output jack and some cost more than a small netbook which can do a lot more.
The roses are melodies,
The petals notes,
Cast by The Magician's Selfless hands
To ring briefly
Then freely land
On the luckiest, few and ragged,
Children in the pilgrim audience.

The m-audio mobile pre has a variety of connections. Including 1/8th inch (3.5mm) input and outputs. Actually 2x 1/8th outputs if you include the headphone jack. It doesn't have plugin power, and requires a computer and is only 2 channels at 16 bit and 48kHz at best. AKA usb 1.x, but it's class compliant, as in works without trickery in linux. Although there's several generations of the device beyond the one I use, and I'm not sure if that means anything beyond cosmetics.

thanks but it doesn't sound like what I'm after

what I need is partly

- a usb dongle that I can copy my music backing tracks into from my computer
- after I remove it from the computer an autonomous playback device the output
of which I can plug into the guitar amp if it has an aux port
(transistor type) or into the Me-70 effects box if the amp is a tube type and
doesn't have any aux port.

You mean you need an MP3 player? ipod, sansa, walkman? I don't know what's any good... you could look at rockbox.org (open-src replacement software for these things) to see what they do and don't recommend.
